Wilton Backs the Launch of the OnePlanetCapital Sustainability EIS Fund

A drive to secure sustainable investments which support climate change is the overarching aim of the team behind a newly created specialist environmental fund.

Senior figures at leading independent professional services company, Wilton, believe the launch of OnePlanetCapital will provide a positive and tangible impact in the emerging green economy.

Founded by Tony Flanagan of Wilton – a leading international regulated financial services advisor – in partnership with entrepreneur Matthew Jellicoe, it will focus on and work with investor groups and organisations to make investments which promote climate change measures, create a positive environmental impact and offer consumer sustainability.

With sustainability at the core of the initiative, OnePlanetCapital is using the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as its overarching framework and will review the progress and contribution of projects throughout, setting up a sustainability management system and measuring the carbon footprint of business activities.

Each year, the specialist Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) fund will select up to 10 sustainable green businesses and schemes to support financially by assessing environmental impact, social purpose and corporate governance in its investee companies.

Target companies and sectors will include those taking steps to tackle emissions through renewable energy, energy efficiency and transport innovation, as well as agricultural technology and consumer sustainability.

OnePlanetCapital founder, Matt Jellicoe, says by spearheading the green industrial revolution and disrupting the status quo, a positive global impact can be created.

‘This is a venture we are extremely excited about, raising investment for companies and organisations that aim to change the environmental prospects of the UK and the wider planet. It is also one which was born out of a motivation to do something about impending crisis and the substantial changes required to tackle the climate issues we face,’ he said.

‘We are fortunate to have a team which comprises industry professionals and experienced entrepreneurs from environmental sciences, engineering and technology, as well as access to a pipeline of early stage and scale-up businesses.

’OnePlanetCapital gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to be part of the green industrial revolution as it unfolds. By investing in the companies of the future that are solving the problems of the present, we believe we can have a positive impact on climate change and the broader environmental issues of the day, whilst also providing investor returns as the green sector undergoes massive growth and government support.’

The OnePlanetCapital EIS advisory panel – which has a strong track record in investing in EIS companies in sectors such as green technology, technology, fintech and broader business – also comprises experienced corporate financial professionals with extensive investment, managing and mentoring experience, one of which is the Managing Partner and Founder of professional services firm Wilton, Tony Flanagan.

He explained: ‘OnePlanetCapital is unique in that it aims to achieve market rate returns as the world pivots to a low carbon economy. In the current climate, it is so important to support, engage and empower investors and small businesses and the EIS is recognised by investors as a well-established solution.

‘At Wilton we are happy to help firms assess if they are eligible and will also advise high net worth individuals, as well as offering strategic and operational support.’
